How cPanel Hosting Functions

For your info, it's good to be aware that most of the cPanel-based hosting offers on today's hosting marketplace are furnished by a very inconsiderable business niche (as far as annual cash flow is concerned) called reseller hosting. Reseller website hosting is a type of a small-scale business segment, which supplies an enormous quantity of different web hosting brands, yet supplying literally the same solutions: mainly cPanel web hosting solutions. This is bad news for everyone. Why? Because at least 98% of the website hosting offers on the entire website hosting marketplace provide exactly the same thing: cPanel. There's no difference at all. Even the cPanel-based hosting price tags are alike. Quite identical. Leaving for those who need a top web hosting service virtually no other web hosting platform/website hosting Control Panel option. So, there is just one single fact: out of more than 200k web hosting brands around the world, the non-cPanel based ones are less than 2, mark that one...

The hosting "variety" and the hosting "offers" Google shows to us come down to merely one and the very same thing: cPanel. Under 100's of 1000's of different web hosting trademarked names. Assume you are merely an ordinary chap who's not very well familiar with (as the majority of us) with the site creation processes and the web hosting platforms, which actually power the individual domains and web sites. Are you ready to make your hosting decision? Is there any web hosting variant you can decide upon? Of course there is, as of now there are more than two hundred thousand website hosting corporations in existence. Officially. Then where is the difficulty? Here's where: more than 98% of these more than two hundred thousand unique website hosting brands across the world will offer you the same cPanel website hosting Control Panel and platform, branded in a different way, with the very same price tags! WOW! That's how huge the diversity on the present-day website hosting market is... Full stop.

The hosting LOTTERY we are all participating in

Simple math demonstrates that to chance upon a non-cPanel based web hosting supplier is an enormous stroke of fortune. There is a less than 1 in fifty chance that a thing like that will take place! Less than one in fifty...

The advantages and disadvantages of the cPanel hosting solution

Let's not be relentless with cPanel. At least, in the years 2001-2004 cPanel was trendy and probably answered most website hosting industry prerequisites. In short, cPanel can do the trick if you have just a single domain to host. But, if you have more domain names...

Downside Number One: An imbecilic domain name folder arrangement

If you have 2 or more domain names, however, be ultra careful not to erase fully the add-on ones (that's how cPanel will dub each subsequent hosted domain, which is not the default one: an add-on domain name). The files of the add-on domains are quite easy to erase on the server, because they all are located into the root folder of the default domain, which is the very well known public_html folder. Each add-on domain is a folder situated inside the folder of the default domain name. Like a sub-folder. Next time attempt not to delete the files of the add-on domains, please. Determine for yourself how excellent cPanel's domain folder structure is:

public_html (here my-default-domain.com is placed)
public_html/my-family (a folder part of my-default-domain.com)
public_html/my-second-domain.com (an add-on domain)
public_html/my-second-wife (a folder part of my-default-domain.com)
public_html/my-second-wife.net (an add-on domain name)
public_html/my-third-domain.com (an add-on domain)
public_html/my-third-wife (a folder part of my-default-domain.com)
public_html/my-third-wife.net (an add-on domain)
public_html/rebeka (a folder part of my-default-domain.com)
public_html/rebeka.my-third-wife.net (a sub-domain of an add-on domain)

Are you getting disorientated? We categorically are!

Weakness Number Two: The very same mail folder structure

The email folder configuration on the hosting server is literally the same as that of the domain names... Making the very same error twice?!? The admin chaps strongly enhance their faith in God when managing the electronic mail folders on the email server, praying not to screw things up too severely.

Weak Side Number Three: A sheer absence of domain name administration options

Do we need to refer to the total shortage of a contemporary domain management GUI - a place where you can: register/transfer/renew/park or manage domain names, alter domain names' Whois details, shield the Whois details, alter/set up nameservers (DNS) and Domain Name System resource records? cPanel does not provide such a "modern" menu at all. That's a huge shortcoming. An unforgivable one, we want to point out...

Weak Side Number 4: Many user login locations (min 2, maximum 3)

How about the need for an extra login to access the invoicing transaction, domain name and technical support administration tool? That's aside from the cPanel user account login credentials you've been already given by the cPanel-based hosting vendor. Occasionally, on the basis of the billing transaction platform (particularly made for cPanel only) the cPanel hosting corporation is availing of, the keen users can wind up with two additional login places (1: the invoicing/domain name administration user interface; 2: the ticket support user interface), ending up with an aggregate of 3 user login places (including cPanel).

Downside Number 5: 120+ web hosting Control Panel departments to memorize... rapidly

cPanel presents to your attention more than a hundred and twenty menus inside the website hosting Control Panel. It's a superb idea to become acquainted with each one of them. And you'd better pick them up quickly... That's extremely arrogant on cPanel's side.

With all due respect, we have a rhetorical question for all cPanel-based hosting service providers:

As far as we know, it's not the year 2001, is it? Note that one too...
